Meta has quietly launched a fashion app called Style Sketch, which helps users generate inspiration for outfits using their existing clothing items. The app can be connected to Instagram to create a virtual wardrobe from photos already posted by users; users can also manually add items by taking photos, recording short videos, or uploading pictures from their albums.
Style Sketch Subsequently, it will recommend clothing combinations based on the user's wardrobe and personal style. According to the app description, users can also have these outfits displayed on 'realistic models that match their body type and skin color' for trial wearing.
This app was first discovered by social media consultant Matt Navarra. It is currently available on the iOS and Android platforms in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.
Meta has not responded to TechCrunch's request for a comment. It is still unclear whether Meta plans to launch Style Sketch on a wider scale.
Currently, there are several applications that use AI to help users digitize their wardrobes and visualize new outfit combinations, including startups such as Alta. Even Google Photos provides relevant tools for users to organize photos of their clothes into a digital wardrobe and create new outfit inspirations based on them.
In order to compete with existing products on the market, Meta may not rely primarily on the novelty of this idea itself, but rather more on the integration of the application with Instagram, as users have already left behind their personal visual traces on Instagram.
According to the application description, users do not have to rely on random recommendations; they can also select a particular item from their own wardrobe and obtain new outfit suggestions generated around that item.
This app can also help users plan their outfits for trips. By entering the destination, travel duration, and planned activities, users can get a daily outfit plan that takes into account weather forecasts and travel schedules.
Style Sketch is one of the many AI applications launched by Meta in recent months. Recently, the company also released an application called Waddle World, which essentially seems to be a clone version of the AI electronic pet Tamagotchi. Meta has also launched Pocket – a tool for vibe-coding games, as well as Vibes – an application that allows users to quickly generate AI videos.
The launch of this new wave of applications is part of the broader deployment plan for Meta. Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees that with the efficiency improvements driven by AI, making the launch of new applications faster and easier, the company plans to release a much larger number of applications than in the past.
