According to CoinMeta, AMD ( AMD.O ) has agreed to acquire the artificial intelligence startup World Labs for $8.2 billion, bringing in the team from AI founded by pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence, Li Feifei. Both companies stated in a statement on Monday that the all-stock transaction is expected to be completed by the end of this year, subject to regulatory approval. As an important competitor to NVIDIA ( NVDA.O ) in the AI chip market, AMD will gain access to a top-tier research team and their models through this acquisition, which will help the company plan its future hardware products. AMD CEO Su Zifeng said that the acquisition of World Labs is aimed at obtaining the world-class talent gathered by Li Feifei and combining it with World Labs's capabilities in hardware, software, and systems. Under the agreement, Li Feifei will join AMD as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist, reporting directly to Su Zifeng.
