According to CoinMeta, THORChain has clarified the emergency suspension it initiated after suffering a $10.6 million hacker attack in May 2026, emphasizing that this measure is different from the intervention requested by Bitget. The CEO of Bitget, Gracy Chen, publicly requested on September 26 that THORChain refuse to serve the wallets of the attackers who were publicly tracked. THORChain stated that the network suspension was an “emergency security mechanism aimed at protecting the protocol” and not a selective freeze of specific funds or individual exchanges. This decentralized exchange lost $10.7 million in this incident and initiated a full network shutdown to control the development of the situation. Bitget is currently advancing a compensation plan and has processed 9,585 BTC withdrawals; it is expected that withdrawals for ETH and USDT will resume on September 29th and 30th.
