California Bans Public Officials from Issuing Emotion Coins, Effective in 2027
2026-09-28 18:15:32
According to CoinMeta, California has passed a law that prohibits public officials and certain government employees from issuing non-fungible tokens (NFTs), also known as “emoji coins.” The law will take effect on January 1, 2027, and it restricts the listing of newly issued political tokens on platforms intended for California residents. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill on September 27th in response to the phenomenon of public officials profiting from political tokens. The law targets two main groups: public officials who issue these tokens and digital asset service providers that list them for California residents.
