Scammers defrauded over $2 million through a fake GIWA blockchain
2026-09-28 13:38:13
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Coin Bureau, scammers created a fake GIWA blockchain to deceive users into sending over 766 ETH, defrauding more than 2 million US dollars. GIWA is a legitimate Ethereum layer-2 network connected to Upbit, but its mainnet has not yet been launched. Taking advantage of users' anticipation for the upcoming launch of the mainnet, the scammers copied the chain GIWA's ID 9134 and set up a working RPC and a fake bridge. Users were able to connect their wallets and conduct transactions, making it seem legitimate, while the real assets flowed into the infrastructure controlled by the scammers. The DYOR Swap of the fake chain increased its apparent credibility. The team stated that they are preparing to use treasury funds to compensate the affected users, with the details to be determined after investigation and verification. Even a working network can still be a scam, so users should check the official launch announcement, RPC details, and the bridging addresses.
