According to CoinMeta, the Kazakhstani government is promoting the use of associated gas to power cryptocurrency mining in order to revive the restricted mining industry. President Tokayev signed a decree in July requiring the establishment of mechanisms for companies to utilize associated gas for digital mining. Daniyar Mubarakov, the head of the Blockchain and Digital Mining Association, stated that the total amount of associated gas in Kazakhstan could be converted into 1.2 to 1.3 terawatt-hours of electricity, which is sufficient to support the construction of data centers or Bitcoin mining farms in oil fields. The Kazakhstani Ministry of Energy estimates that up to 60 oil fields in the country generate associated gas, and oil companies can sell this waste gas to miners, who can lock in electricity prices for several years. The Kazakhstani government is formulating relevant legal frameworks. AI and Gizzat Baitursynov, the deputy minister of Digital Development, indicated that this mechanism will increase government revenue and improve the environment.
