Key Points
- XRPL AI Hub Approaches 15 Million Automated Payments
- The total value is still less than $50,000.
- Batch payments may make machine trading cheaper.
The artificial intelligence payment ecosystem of XRP Ledger is approaching 15 million recorded transactions, but the total value is still less than $50,000. This indicates that network activity is growing, yet the actual amount of funds in circulation is relatively limited.
According to the XRPL AI Hub dashboard, the platform has tracked a total of 14,868,038 payments, amounting to approximately $49,134. Based on this calculation, the average payment per record is only about $0.0033, which is roughly one-third of a cent.
The dashboard also shows 183 registered merchants and 5,319 online services, indicating that even though the underlying financial scale is still not large, developers are still expanding the automated payment infrastructure.
XRP Ledger AI Payment growth, but the settlement value is still very small
The latest data signifies that this ecosystem has once again reached a milestone. As of early July this year, the volume of transactions recorded in this ecosystem was only about 1 million.
As of October 11th, the event has seen a total of 13.5 million payments, involving 168 registered merchants. The latest figures indicate an additional 1.38 million payments and 15 new registered merchants.
This rapid growth is attributed to the launch of x402 integration, which allows software agents to purchase digital services without the need for manual approval for each transaction individually.
AI proxies may no longer be subscribed to on a monthly basis, but instead, only a fraction of a cent will be charged for each individual API call, model inference, or access to a specific dataset.
This also explains why millions of transactions only result in a relatively small settlement value.
However, the dashboard tracks payments related to its supported infrastructure, and not all transactions that occur on XRPL. Its data also cannot indicate how many of these payments come from independent paying customers, and how many are just repetitive automated activities.
Previous payment growth also showed the same pattern: activity increased, but demand for tokens remained limited.
New batch settlement or making it cheaper for AI to pay
An advancement on October 14th brought about another significant change.
XRPL AI Hub has started testing the use of XRP Ledger Checks for batch settlements, allowing multiple x402 payment requests to be combined into a single on-chain settlement operation.
During the mainnet session from October 14th to 17th, the project stated that the network fee for each paid request was reduced from approximately 10 drops to 0.36 drops.
One drop is equivalent to 0.000001 XRP, which means that even the standard minimum transaction fee is extremely small.
Batch settlement can make micro-payments more economical by spreading network costs over multiple requests. However, this also means that payment requests and actual on-chain transactions should not be automatically considered as the same activity.
Ripple The original AI Starter Kit has already provided agents with tools for managing wallets and making autonomous purchases.
The latest developments are moving this ecosystem towards a new model: thousands of small requests can be processed with fewer settlement operations.
What does the growth in AI payments mean for the demand for XRP?
Its economic implications are still not so intuitive.
AI agents can use the US dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD of XRP or Ripple for settlement. Both assets use the same network, but have different purposes.
As explained by the comparison between XRP and RLUSD, RLUSD offers predictable pricing in US dollars, whereas XRP provides native transfers for paying transaction fees.
This distinction is very important because the growth in RLUSD payment activities does not require a corresponding purchase of an equal amount of XRP.
Another study on the blockchain found that a relatively small group of wallets was responsible for millions of low-value RLUSD transfers, indicating that automated activities may increase the number of transactions, but they may not necessarily bring corresponding economic value.
