Château de Fontainebleau in France, Singapore, and San Francisco, October 30th / PRNewswire / -- INSEAD Today, it was announced that funding of $3 million has been obtained from Google. org and Google DeepMind. This funding will be used to support the "Human and Organization Prosperity Research Laboratory" ( INSEAD Thrive Lab), which aims to accelerate global research on how individuals and organizations can achieve prosperous development in an era of continuous technological change.
Artificial intelligence is becoming one of the most influential technologies, profoundly shaping the way people learn, work, live, and interact with each other. Although it brings nearly unlimited possibilities, it also requires careful attention to its potential risks. Against the backdrop of continuously accelerating technological changes, how can we enhance human, social, and psychological capital? How must learning ecosystems such as education, communities, and professions evolve in order to build this capital? These are precisely the core issues that INSEAD Thrive Lab will focus on studying.

INSEAD Thrive Lab, Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior INSEAD, stated: "We wish to understand how people can expand their capabilities in the era of artificial intelligence, establish economically viable and psychologically meaningful work-life balances, and build strong relationships with others. Through rigorous interdisciplinary research, INSEAD Thrive Lab aims to have a real-world impact and develop actionable insights that will help individuals and organizations not only adapt to a rapidly changing world but also thrive within it."
This laboratory is affiliated with the Human-Machine Intelligence Research Institute of INSEAD ( HUMII ). HUMII is an interdisciplinary research institution, whose core academic team includes the Nobel laureate in Economics for 2025, Philippe Aghion, and the recipient of the Oskar Morgenstern award in 2025, Phanish Puranam. INSEAD Thrive Lab will focus on three interrelated areas: learning, work, and relationships.
Google's org Head of Scientific Foundations, Sepi Hejazi Moghadam, stated: "The success of artificial intelligence should not be measured solely by efficiency or increased productivity, but rather by whether it can enable people to lead more fulfilling lives. Addressing this rapid transformation requires thoughtful research and a firm commitment to human welfare. We are proud to support the launch of INSEAD Thrive Lab; this laboratory will explore some of the most pressing issues shaping future work, help people adapt and remain resilient, and prosper together with AI."
INSEAD, the academic director and dean of research and innovation at the Institute of Human-Machine Intelligence, Lily Fang said: "We are very grateful for the generous funding from Google, org, and Google DeepMind. Our goal is to study various branches of artificial intelligence, with the ultimate aim of expanding human capabilities and agency. The work of this laboratory will become the core of HUMII and our society."

INSEAD Thrive Lab will continue the school's mission of cultivating responsible leaders and driving organizational and social change, becoming a global hub for research, dialogue, and innovation centered on the humanistic dimensions of progress. To this end, the laboratory will support emerging scholars conducting research on themes related to human meaning and prosperity through doctoral research awards and postdoctoral scholarships, and it will bring together a broader research community through annual global conferences. The laboratory will also collaborate with organizations, schools, and governments to transform research insights into practice, and through a series of seminars, lectures, and dialogues, it will ultimately help people achieve prosperous development.
This announcement was released during the INSEAD AI Forum Asia period, and the forum was held at the INSEAD Asian campus in Singapore.
