IT News on October 16th: According to reports from The Paper, at the 2026 World Energy Storage Conference held in Ningde City, Fujian Province on October 15th, Yang Xudong, Director of the Electronic Information Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, emphasized that the national top-level design "focuses on supply-demand adaptation."
Yang Xudong stated that during the '15th Five-Year Plan' period, the scale of the new battery industry should maintain a steady growth trend. However, this steady growth must also take into account the actual capacity to bear and the foundation for development. It is absolutely not advisable to rush into large-scale projects blindly, which could lead to unnecessary supply-demand contradictions.
The so-called new type of batteries are high-efficiency energy storage and conversion devices or systems that focus on innovation in new mechanisms, new materials, new structures, and new processes. Represented by lithium batteries, sodium batteries, flow batteries, etc., they are characterized by rapid technological iteration, a wide range of applications, and strong radiating effects.
As previously reported by IT, on September 28, seven departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued the "15th Five-Year Plan" for the development of the new battery industry.
The "Plan" proposes that by 2030, the scale of China's new battery industry will achieve steady growth; the innovation capability across the entire chain will continue to strengthen, with new breakthroughs in advanced materials. Significant progress will be made in the research and development of new system batteries, and all-solid-state batteries will begin to be applied on a large scale. The cycle life of long-life lithium batteries will reach 15,000 times, and the product defect rate of leading enterprises will reach the level of PPB (billionth rate). The ecosystem for full-scenario applications will be accelerated in construction, and battery technology will integrate more rapidly with clean energy and energy-consuming terminals for innovative development. International trade and investment integration will be further advanced to serve global green and low-carbon development.
