Report claims Samsung's verification phase revealed high heat generation in Qualcomm's new flagship chip; Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to make a comeback, along with Exynos

According to the Seoul Economic Daily, Samsung discovered overheating issues with Qualcomm's sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Super Elite version during final performance testing for Galaxy S27 Ultra. Internal tests showed that the temperature repeatedly exceeded thresholds under high loads, resulting in a slowdown of the device. Samsung reported these findings to Qualcomm in September, requesting improvements by mid-October; if the issue cannot be resolved, Samsung may opt to use its own-developed Exynos 2700 instead.
IT News on October 16th: Digital blogger @iBingUniverse cited a report from the Seoul Economic Daily today (October 16th), stating that during the final performance testing of Galaxy S27 Ultra's flagship phone, Samsung discovered an overheating issue with Qualcomm's sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Super Elite version (Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme 6th generation).

Reports indicate that internal tests have shown that this chip repeatedly exceeds temperature thresholds during high-load operations, and there is also a decline in processing speed. Samsung provided the test results to Qualcomm last month (September 2026) and requested that Qualcomm make improvements by mid-October.
According to a blog post cited by IT, both parties are still in the process of continuous optimization and retesting. Samsung plans to assess the progress of Qualcomm's heat dissipation improvements in the middle of this month and ultimately determine the processor solution. If the issues cannot be resolved, Samsung may opt to use its own Exynos 2700 instead.

If Exynos 2700 is ultimately selected, it will mark the first time in five years that the Ultra series has been equipped with a Exynos chip again. Previously, Samsung used the Exynos 2200 in the European version of the Galaxy S22 Ultra in 2022. Since the Galaxy S23 Ultra in 2023, all Ultra models have uniformly adopted Qualcomm processors worldwide.
