News from the IT family on October 13th: Technology media The Information reported yesterday (October 12th) that OpenAI is in negotiations with a stealth startup focused on film production and AI video technology. They plan to hand over the previously discontinued video generation model Sora to this company, allowing it to re-enter the market with professional film and television tools.

According to a blog post cited by IT, this startup was founded several months ago by Hollywood producer Jeffrey Katzenberg (Jeffrey Katzenberg), former research head Bill Peables (Bill Peebles), and former chief financial officer Sujay Jasswa (Sujay Jaswa). The company name has not yet been made public.
In terms of cooperation, according to the details disclosed in the blog post, this startup plans to take over and transform the Sora platform, and to develop and sell software or services for film and television producers based on that technology. The terms of the cooperation have not yet been finalized; it is also unclear whether the startup will be able to obtain the model weights of Sora.
Earlier this year, OpenAI ceased the development of the Sora model and its related TikTok video applications due to the reduction of non-core projects that consumed high amounts of computing power, and redirected its resources towards businesses such as AI and programming tools. Prior to this, Sora's consumer-grade applications and web platform had already been shut down, and OpenAI also terminated a cooperation plan with Disney worth approximately $1 billion (Note from IT: current exchange rate is about 6.706 billion RMB).
