News from the IT Home on October 9th: According to reports from Omdia in the UK today, global PC shipments in the third quarter of 2026 dropped to 58.1 million units, a year-on-year decline of 21.2%. Of this, 11.7 million units were shipped for desktop devices, a decrease of 23.5%; 46.4 million units were shipped for mobile devices, a decrease of 20.6%.

The institution also provides forecasts: The PC market is expected to shrink by 24% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2026, and will further decline by 7% in 2027.

Research Director Omdia mentioned that leading OEM companies expect sales to shrink by double digits in the first half of 2026, while retailers report a double-digit increase in average selling prices; Chief Analyst Ben Yeh pointed out that the proportion of memory (DRAM + NAND) in PC material costs has risen from about 15% during normal times to nearly 40%.

PC Suppliers and their ODM partners have started to reduce production since the third quarter of 2026, while channel partners continue to deal with increasing inventory levels.

Among the main market participants, HP (Hewlett-Packard) has been more severely affected than other competitors, while the decline in sales for ASUS (ASUS) and Apple (Apple) has been relatively mild.
