News from the IT family on October 8th: Technology media The Verge published a blog post today (October 8th) that explored Microsoft's laboratories and introduced how Microsoft created Surface Laptop Ultra. The design of this product underwent more than 300 iterations, with the aim of competing better with Apple's MacBook Pro.
As cited in a blog post from IT, in order to make the exterior design of Surface Laptop Ultra competitive with that of MacBook, Microsoft has cleverly redesigned the magnetic Surface Connect charging port, which they officially refer to as Magnetic Connect.

Microsoft's Chief Designer for Surface devices, Jit Hirani, stated: "During the development process of Surface Laptop Ultra, our engineering team went through about 300 iterations, resulting in the creation of the world's first product with a built-in magnetic USB-C interface. From the very beginning of product design, our only limitation was that we could not alter the standard USB-C interface."

Microsoft did not sacrifice a certain USB-C interface for some custom solution; instead, they designed a magnetic interface around the USB-C interface. Its user experience is very similar to that of the first-generation Surface Connect interface, also featuring a charging indicator light, and there is no need for precise alignment. Users can even unplug the cable from a 140-watt charger, reverse the cable, re-plug it in, and then use the regular USB-C interface at the other end to charge other devices.
Ostrum told me that Microsoft spent several years “dedicatedly developing” a magnetic charging solution for USB-C. So I asked him: Will we see this technology on more Surface devices? “We’ll wait and see,” he said. “We’ve put a lot of effort into this technology. We hope to introduce it to the world here.”
