IT News on October 7th: According to a report by technology media CNBC today, the Finnish Agency for Economic and Environmental Affairs (LVV) issued a notice on Tuesday to Google's subsidiary Tuike Finland Oy, requiring them to suspend the construction of the data centers in Muos and Kajaani until the environmental impact assessment is completed.

It is reported that Google only promised last month to invest $15 billion (Note from IT: the current exchange rate is approximately 100.679 billion yuan) in Finland to build AI infrastructure. LVV indicates that Google has now been required to pause activities such as tree felling, topsoil removal, excavation, and quarrying.
A Google spokesperson stated, "We understand the concerns of the authorities and acknowledge that the project did not meet the high standards we set for ourselves. We complied with the local Forest Law while carrying out our work and conducted environmental assessments. In the future, we will continue to engage in long-term efforts in these areas to ensure that the land can maintain its biodiversity. We plan to plant trees on 130 hectares of land in Muoss."
As the wave of artificial intelligence continues to heat up, Finland has become a new stronghold for major tech companies to build data centers. These giants have taken a liking to Finland's land resources and power supply, in contrast to most regions in Europe which are facing power shortages.
