U.S. Treasury yields rose in the early session on Wednesday, after falling on the previous trading day. Investors are awaiting the highly anticipated auction of 10-year Treasurys and the minutes from the Federal Reserve's most recent meeting. The market will look for clues about monetary policy in these minutes, as well as whether the offering of $39 billion in 10-year Treasurys will attract buyers.

U.S. Treasury yields rose in the early session on Wednesday, after falling in the previous trading day, as investors awaited a highly anticipated auction of 10-year Treasurys, as well as the minutes from the Federal Reserve's most recent meeting.

The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds rose by 3 basis points to 5.307%; the yield on 30-year U.S. Treasury bonds rose by 4 basis points to 5.69%. The yield on 2-year U.S. Treasury bonds rose by 1 basis point to 4.801%.

One basis point is equal to 0.01 percentage points, and the yield rate moves in the opposite direction to the bond price trend.

Investors will be focusing on two key events on Wednesday. The minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, to be released at 2 p.m. Eastern Time, will be closely analyzed in search of any potential clues regarding the Fed's monetary policy decisions. At the Fed's September meeting, policymakers voted to raise interest rates for the first time since 2023.

In the past six weeks, bond yields have continued to rise due to investors' concerns about inflation and rising energy prices.

According to the FedWatch tool of CME Group ( CME Group ), traders currently estimate that there is a 78% probability that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged at its next meeting.

The U.S. Treasury Department plans to auction $39 billion in 10-year Treasury bonds on Wednesday, which will test whether current yields are attractive enough to attract buyers, or whether investors will demand a higher risk premium amid concerns about inflation, debt levels, and duration risks.

BMO, the head of U.S. interest rate strategy, Ian Lyngen and other analysts stated in a report released at the close of trading on Tuesday: "We are encouraged by the bidding at the Tuesday 3-year Treasury auction - the winning bid yield was slightly lower than the pre-issuance yield, but there was no weakening in the tail as seen in a series of previous coupon-bearing Treasury auctions."

These analysts added, "Needless to say, the supply of 10-year Treasury bonds on Wednesday is far more important in setting the tone for the U.S. interest rate market. Although there was solid demand for the 3-year Treasury bonds, we will still be watching to see if there will be any significant concessions in the auction before the renewal of the 10-year bonds, whether it's in terms of absolute yield or the yield curve."
