Peak XV Partners is one of the largest venture capital firms investing in markets such as India and Southeast Asia, managing assets worth over $10 billion. The company stated that with the announcement of a new cohort consisting of 18 companies, it has increased the investment amount per startup through its seed-stage investment platform Surge.
This new project, named Surge 12, is the first to benefit from the higher investment limit of Peak XV under cohort. Previously, the maximum investment per company was 3 million US dollars, which has now been increased to 5 million US dollars. Peak XV indicates that this venture capital firm has invested a total of over 50 million US dollars in this cohort, and the companies within this cohort have raised over 90 million US dollars in seed funding. The company also stated that the median investment amount per company has increased as well, but refused to disclose the specific figure.
Peak XV, the managing partner, said in an interview: "The threshold for Series A financing has significantly increased." He added that the company has also observed more capital-intensive enterprises, especially deep-tech companies, raising larger amounts of financing at the seed stage.
Anandan told TechCrunch that with the advancement of each batch of cohort, Surge has also become more globalized. The founders and companies of the latest batch are distributed from San Francisco to Sydney. Among the 18 startups, only 5 focus on the Indian market, while more than half of the companies are located in India. The remaining 13 are targeting the global market, which also highlights the difference between where the companies are established and where their future customers will be.
Since its launch in 2019, at that time Peak XV was also known as Sequoia Capital India, and, and Southeast Asia. Surge has supported over 180 startups, founded by entrepreneurs from more than 18 nationalities. Peak XV indicates that the top 10 of these cohort companies, which are of medium size, now have a combined annual revenue of over 1 billion US dollars.
Anandan said that Surge is a way for Peak XV to invest in the seed stage, and in addition, the company also offers standard seed investments; at the same time, as companies enter subsequent financing rounds, Peak XV will continue to participate as an investor. The founders they support usually include serial entrepreneurs, experienced operators, and highly specialized technical founders. He mentioned that in a typical cohort, about 50% to 60% of the members come from operational positions in mature technology companies.

This batch of startups covers areas such as AI, robotics, space, consumer goods, healthcare, music, and fintech. The scope ranges from AI security and personal computing, to autonomous robots used in underground pipelines, to satellites used for detecting radio frequency signals from orbit.
