Blockchain companies call on SEC to modify the digital asset framework

According to CoinMeta, six major blockchain organizations, including the Chainlink Labs and Cardano foundations, have called on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to officially classify digital commodities as non-securities so that they are clearly reflected in its proposed regulatory framework. In a joint letter dated October 20th, these organizations pointed out that the SEC's current interpretation regards digital commodities as a unique category, but the proposed rules fail to clearly reflect this distinction, which may lead to uncertainty among developers and market participants regarding the applicable securities regulations. The letter also requests greater clarity on how securities laws apply to secondary market transactions involving digital assets, as well as the handling of activities such as staking related to decentralized blockchain networks.
