According to CoinMeta, the European Police Organization has released two reports urging the crypto industry and policymakers to prepare in advance for the threat of quantum computing. The reports state that crypto wallet keys are a major vulnerability point, while the hash functions that ensure the operation of blockchain systems currently possess basic quantum-resistant capabilities. Studies estimate that upgrading all Bitcoin transaction outputs to quantum-resistant solutions would require at least a total of 76 days of downtime. Additionally, the reports point out that there is currently no clear evidence indicating that the “steal first, then decrypt” attack has been systematically utilized on a large scale.
