EU Warning: Gradual Transition to Post-Quantum Security Necessary to Protect Cryptocurrency Wallets
2026-10-07 21:49:53
CoinMeta data: In a report released on Wednesday, the European Union's Criminal Police Organization (Europol) pointed out that cryptocurrency wallets are a major risk point for future quantum computing attacks, calling on the industry to immediately begin transitioning to post-quantum security, including wallet upgrades and post-quantum cryptography. The report emphasizes that although there are currently no quantum computers capable of carrying out such attacks, the EU believes that "proactive adaptation, rather than system collapse, is the most likely outcome." Additionally, the report mentions that by 2029, credible quantum-resistant migration plans need to be in place.
