Sierra and Meta launch personal agency protocols to promote standardization of business interactions
2026-10-07 10:46:18
According to CoinMeta, Sierra and Meta announced the launch of a personal agent protocol ( PAP ) on October 6, 2026, with the aim of standardizing how individual AI agents authenticate and interact with enterprises. This protocol is built upon OAuth and aims to standardize agent identity recognition, intent declaration, and task execution. The technical architecture of PAP focuses on session-based authorization, allowing users to grant specific permissions to agents, and enterprises can integrate these agents through existing websites and API. Although initial supporters include Stripe, Shopify, and Walmart among others, the lack of participation from industry giants such as Amazon and OpenAI poses challenges to the long-term viability of the protocol. According to data from The Wall Street Journal, only 3% of American adults trust AI agents to complete purchases.
