According to CoinMeta, Eigen Labs and Zcash organizations, along with Shielded Labs, announced the launch of HashSmash on October 5, 2026. This is an open competition project aimed at testing the attack capabilities of AI against four widely used hash functions: SHA-256, SHA-3, Blake3, and Poseidon. The project will be conducted on the Yukon platform, and all results will be reviewed by cryptographers and publicly released. The goal of HashSmash is to explore potential weaknesses of AI in the field of cryptography and to enhance the security of encryption technologies.
