The US CFTC intends to require retail leveraged crypto trading to be mediated through FCM
2026-10-06 09:20:00
According to CoinMeta, the Chairperson of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) issued preliminary proposed rule notices regarding margin, leverage, or financing for crypto transactions provided to retail customers. These rules would require such transactions to be mediated by futures brokers, who must also meet customer asset segregation and capital requirements, as well as comply with anti-money laundering obligations. It is proposed that the delivery of crypto assets to external, non-hosted wallets within 28 days would generally qualify as an exception to the "actual delivery" requirement. In addition, the CFTC is studying long-term regulatory policies for specific developers and has listed Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, Ripple, Monero, DogeCoin, and XRP as examples of "digital commodities."
