According to CoinMeta, Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz is no longer the reason why Americans have to pay higher oil prices; rather, it is a problem with refineries. On Monday, an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was attacked, resulting in a fire in the engine room. According to data from the UK Maritime and Trade Operations Agency (UKMTO), this is the tenth incident since October 1st. Middle Eastern crude oil exports averaged 18.5 million barrels per week as of October 1st, exceeding pre-war levels. Nevertheless, oil tankers continue to be attacked. On Monday, the price of Brent crude oil rose from around $67 to $104, and the price of wholesale gasoline rose from around $2.30 to $3.20. According to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), the price of regular gasoline on Monday was $4.37 per gallon, up $1.24 from last year.
