Russia pays salaries in digital rubles for the first time

According to CoinMeta, the Russian Ministry of Finance has for the first time paid some employees' salaries in digital rubles. According to a press release from the Ministry of Finance, starting from October 1st, Russian citizens can voluntarily choose to receive their salaries in the central bank's digital currency. The Ministry of Finance did not disclose the number of employees involved in the digital currency payments or the total amount of salaries paid. In a pilot of federal budget expenditures in 2025, approximately 16 million digital rubles (about $192,245) were distributed.
