According to CoinMeta, NEAR Intents announced that it has successfully recovered the funds stolen in a hacker attack on October 1st, which amounted to 3.8 million US dollars. The company's general manager, Alex Shevchenko, confirmed on October 2nd that all the funds had been returned and that the investigation had been halted. He called on security researchers to utilize vulnerability reward programs instead of interfering with online services. The recovery of the funds was accomplished after several hours of on-chain negotiations; before returning most of the assets, the hackers transferred 1 BNB to the recovery address and requested to continue private discussions. Shevchenko stated that the team had identified the attackers and released multiple addresses for the return of the assets. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT traced the stolen funds to Bitcoin via KuCoin, providing an early view of the fund flow.
