Joseph Lubin: Ethereum infrastructure affected by security incidents
2026-10-03 08:17:14
According to CoinMeta, Ethereum co-founder and ConsenSys founder Joseph Lubin stated that some of its infrastructure was affected by a security incident. They have shared relevant information with partners and implemented countermeasures. Based on current investigations, there is no indication that MetaMask wallets or the funds of customers within those wallets were affected, nor were users' mnemonic phrases or private keys involved in this incident. Lubin mentioned that as a preventive measure, their team and partners have rotated the validator keys, and the relevant validators need to exit the staking queue before re-entering it to stake again. He explained that the keys used by Ethereum validators for proposing blocks and voting are separate from the keys used for withdrawals, and since his team does not hold the customer withdrawal keys, any issues with the validator infrastructure will not lead to unauthorized transfers of the underlying ETH.
