The United States at a Crossroads: Commissioner Pierce's Final Challenge
2026-10-02 21:25:29
According to CoinMeta, today is the last day for Hester Peirce to serve on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The digital asset industry, as well as every American who believes that regulation should reduce risks and promote innovation, owes her sincere gratitude. Over the past eight years, Commissioner Pearce has been a firm voice within the commission. During the tenure of the previous SEC Chair, she often expressed dissent with the commission's choice to take enforcement actions rather than establish rules that the industry could follow. She proposed the concept of a token safety harbor before regulators were ready to listen. Commissioner Pearce led the Crypto Task Force and insisted that the responsibility to protect investors meant that the agency had to use its authority to provide a regulatory framework for this rapidly expanding industry. Commissioner Pearce worked every day with humility, conviction, and a sense of humor. Washington needs more people like her. Although she will no longer work at the SEC, her presence and the ideals she represents will continue to exist.
