According to CoinMeta, the new regulations proposed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Thursday aim to clarify how investment companies should handle and safeguard clients' crypto assets. SEC Chair Paul Atkins stated that the proposal will provide a clear regulatory framework for the custody of crypto assets, offering compliance pathways for investment advisors and funds, and replacing the uncertainty brought about by previous custody rules. The new regulations will also specify how investment advisors and regulated funds need to keep records and make federal disclosures, and will allow for self-custody under certain circumstances. The proposal is now open for a 60-day public comment period.
