According to CoinMeta, Circle calls on EU policymakers to revise the regulations regarding the issuance and reserves of stablecoins, as the EU’s policy director stated that only three of the world’s top 30 stablecoins comply with these guidelines. On October 1st, Circle submitted a policy proposal calling for changes to the recognition of cross-border issuances, reserve assets, and foreign-regulated stablecoins. Circle noted that Europe has authorized around 30 types of digital currency tokens, but its regulations still cover a relatively small number of the world’s largest tokens. The EU Strategy and Policy Director of Circle, Patrick Hansen, stated, “Currently, only three of the largest stablecoins meet the requirements.” The stablecoins that meet these criteria include USDC, USDG, and EURC. Circle’s policy document also compares the top 25 stablecoins based on market capitalization, rather than the top 30, and again mentions these three compliant tokens.
