Ethereum Foundation and Open Anonymity Project Launch zkAPI

According to CoinMeta, the Ethereum Foundation and Open Anonymity Project have launched zkAPI, which utilizes zero-knowledge proofs to separate the usage of API from the payer's identity. It has now been deployed on the Ethereum mainnet. Users can deposit amounts such as ETH and USDC onto the blockchain at Vault. They can then authorize single-use or session-based API transactions through zero-knowledge proofs. Service providers can verify the validity of the payments but cannot ascertain the specific source of the deposits or the identity of the payers, and the payment layer is also unable to see the content of the requests. zkAPI supports generating short-term, limited API Key for compatible interfaces such as OpenAI and Ollama, with funds settled based on actual usage and managed by smart contracts. Users can withdraw their funds from the blockchain at any time. This solution is currently mainly used for AI inference but can also be extended to RPC, image generation, and inter-machine services. However, it cannot conceal the identity-related risks associated with IP, request timing, and the content of prompts themselves.
