According to CoinMeta, and as cited by The Wall Street Journal reporting on statements by U.S. officials, the Pentagon is sending a third aircraft carrier battle group and additional Marine Corps amphibious vessels to the Middle East. It is expected that around 9,000 to 10,000 additional U.S. troops will be deployed, with the related vessels, fighter jets, and personnel arriving by the end of November. Currently, the USS George H.W. Bush and USS George Washington aircraft carriers are already deployed in the Middle East, while the USS Theodore Roosevelt has recently set sail from San Diego, and the USS Makin Island amphibious group has also departed. If the USS George Washington remains in the area by then, the U.S. will have three aircraft carrier battle groups deployed in the Middle East for the first time since April. In addition, the U.S. military has recently extended the deployment of air defense forces and the 82nd Airborne Division, among other units. There are currently over 50,000 U.S. troops and about 20 U.S. Navy vessels in the Middle East. At this time of increased troop deployment, U.S. President Donald Trump is considering resuming military strikes against Iran after the mid-term elections if no agreement can be reached between the U.S. and Iran. If the third aircraft carrier continues to remain in the region, it will provide the U.S. with more military options and firepower.
