Google Engineer: Switching to Cybersecurity is a "Leap of Faith"
2026-10-01 17:33:10
According to CoinMeta, Google engineer Prerit Pathak shared his experience of transitioning from software engineering to cybersecurity. He believes that the visibility of the cybersecurity profession is not as high as that of software engineering or artificial intelligence. During his time at Del Technology, he discovered a vulnerability in a public website and reported it to management, ultimately receiving recognition from several universities and organizations. Pathak stated that the lack of public guidance and transparency in career development within the cybersecurity field makes it difficult for many people to see their potential in this role. He advises engineers who wish to make such a transition to leverage their technical skills and emphasizes the importance of communication skills in order to better articulate their ideas during interviews.
