CoinMeta data: Zcash holders have approved a retroactive subsidy of $8.4 million for the work completed, including a reward of $1.5 million for researchers who discovered critical orchard vulnerabilities. OpenZcash data shows that in the third quarter of 2026, among the holder-led retroactive subsidies, 17 out of 37 proposals were funded, with a funding rate of 93.1%. The largest single vote involved approximately 2.18 million ZEC, which is about 10.4% of Zcash's maximum supply of 21 million. Zcash Co-founder Zooko Wilcox stated on October 1st that these subsidies rewarded those who worked on the network during this year's security crisis. This subsidy system provided retroactive compensation for the security work completed, with funds coming from a fund controlled by the holders.
