Analyst: ESMA proposes to regulate DEFI access points under the MiCA framework
2026-10-01 11:09:15
According to CoinMeta, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) proposed in its review response to regulate the entry points for accessing decentralized finance (DeFi), rather than directly regulating the code itself. This proposal could change the way exchanges, wallet applications, and other intermediaries connect users to DeFi. ESMA also wishes to obtain more information regarding the distinction between decentralized protocols and systems that rely on human input. Additionally, ESMA suggested stricter regulation of marketing efforts by influencers and third parties, as well as increased transparency. According to a report from 2025, DeFi accounts for approximately 4% of the total value of the global crypto asset market and about 10% of the trading volume on decentralized exchanges.
