Oil prices hit Europe hard, with inflation soaring to multi-year highs

According to CoinMeta, driven by a new round of gains in the energy market, inflation rates in major European economies have soared to their highest levels in years. Inflation figures for September in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain all exceeded analysts' expectations. In particular, Spain's inflation rate reached 5%, the highest level since 2023. Fuel costs remain the main driving factor, and it is expected that they will push the overall inflation rate in the eurozone towards 4% later this year. Although economists predict that the eurozone's inflation rate for September will be 3.7%, data from several countries this week surpassed expectations, raising the risk of further inflation increases. The market generally believes that a rebound in inflation could ultimately lead to further rises in interest rates. However, investors' bets on the European Central Bank (ECB) raising interest rates again in October have actually decreased, mainly because the current inflationary pressures are still concentrated in the energy sector. ECB President Christine Lagarde also stated that selling off in global bond markets will help to curb price pressures.
