According to CoinMeta, as monitored by the drift Foundation, the drift Foundation announced the progress of recovering funds from a security incident that occurred on April 1st: approximately $295 million in user assets were stolen. The foundation has hired Mandiant, ZeroShadow, and Seal to conduct investigations and track the funds. Mandiant identified the attackers as a North Korean threat organization, UNC6862. The stolen funds were later transferred to Ethereum, with about 130,300 ETH tokens distributed across 4 wallets. Three of these wallets have not seen any transfers to date, holding a total of 107,200 ETH tokens. Another wallet transferred about 23,100 ETH tokens to Tornado Cash on July 23rd. So far, about $9.2 million of the stolen funds have been frozen; these funds were previously transferred through Tornado Cash in August, and the process of unfreezing and returning them still requires compliance with legal procedures. The drift Foundation will transfer all assets recovered through freezing, bounty programs, or law enforcement efforts into the DFX recovery pool and is currently evaluating the future path for the drift tokens within a broader ecosystem. In addition, the foundation has collaborated with Bybit to launch a public bounty program, offering a 10% bounty for any successfully recovered funds.
