According to CoinMeta, AMD announced the acquisition of a startup founded two years ago, World Labs, for approximately $8.2 billion in stock. The startup is led by Fei and Fei Li. World Labs focuses on teaching AI to understand and create 3D spaces, rather than just text or flat images. With this acquisition, Li will assume the role of Chief Scientist at AMD and report directly to the company's Chairman and CEO. This move will give AMD an advantage in competition with Nvidia, which previously funded the startup in part. The transaction still requires regulatory approval and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
