CBOE Extends Exclusive License Agreement with S&P Dow Jones Index to 2051

According to CoinMeta, Wu said that CBOE’s parent company CBOE Global Markets announced an extension of their exclusive licensing agreement with the S&P Dow Jones Index (S&P P DJI) for another 25 years until 2051. Under the agreement, CBOE will continue to hold the exclusive trading rights for options on its flagship product, the S&P 500 Index (SPX). In the future, both parties may also explore new products beyond traditional index derivatives, including tokenized option contracts. In 2025, the trading volume of SPX options reached a record 970.6 million contracts, with an average of 3.9 million contracts traded per day, representing a year-on-year increase of 25%. Currently, tokenized options are still in the exploration phase, and no specific products or launch dates have been announced yet.
