Wall Street giants warn: AI assistants may trigger a new type of bank run
2026-09-28 01:49:12
According to CoinMeta, Wall Street giants warn that AI assistants such as Meta's Muse could transfer funds from bank accounts with an annual interest rate of 0.1% to accounts with rates as high as 5%. Apollo's chief economist, Torsten Sl øk, stated that such a shift could deprive banks of their cheap deposits and affect the entire financial system. Sl øk's report listed 11 fintech companies and online accounts with interest rates ranging from 3.3% to 5%, among which Adelfi ranked first with 5%, followed closely by Sofi. Sl øk pointed out that if every family used AI assistants to optimize the returns on their cash balances, banks could lose a large portion of their reliance on cheap deposits.
