DEFI Teddy: Beware of Social Engineering Attacks Targeting Cryptocurrency Practitioners
2026-09-28 00:55:05
CoinMeta US stock news: The founder of KOL (social intelligence and analysis tools), XHunt, DEFI Teddy, reported that they recently came close to a social engineering attack targeting individuals in the crypto industry. The attacker pretended to be an institutional investment manager over Telegram, providing a website, X account, and official email address. They then pulled the victim into a group chat containing “CEO” and “BD”. Through Calendly, an appointment for a meeting was made, during which questions about business models, valuation, and market expansion were asked. About 10 minutes later, the attacker claimed an inability to connect over Google Meet as a reason to switch to another meeting platform and sent a link to a so-called “kaokao” website. DEFI Teddy refused to access it and upon verification, found that the URL was a phishing site. He reminded everyone to verify the identity of unfamiliar institutions and their past investment projects before engaging with them, to be cautious of unsolicited private messages, and to avoid clicking on unknown links or downloading unfamiliar software and documents.
