According to CoinMeta, Hester Peirce plans to leave the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 2nd, which will leave Chairperson Paul Atkins and Commissioner Mark Uyeda in charge of handling the crypto asset proposals that are still open for public comment. The largest crypto asset proposal from SEC cannot be finalized before the end of public comments, with the deadline being October 20th. Peirce's departure makes it crucial for the two commissioners to reach a consensus on the final rules. The statutory quorum rule for SEC allows the commission to operate legally with fewer than three commissioners. Peirce has been serving in SEC since 2018, and her departure will reduce the number of decision-makers, which may affect the negotiation of the final text.
