The Fed suspends Treasury bond purchases, plans to replace with mortgage-backed securities

CoinMeta data: The Federal Reserve has suspended its purchases of Treasury bonds to strengthen its reserves, having purchased approximately $215 billion since December last year. The Fed plans to arrange for additional Treasury bond purchases worth about $15.6 billion by October 14 to replace maturing mortgage-backed securities. Since December last year, its balance sheet has grown by $209 billion, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has expanded by $4.8 trillion. Some banks expect that the suspended purchases will resume in October, although the Fed has not yet announced a resumption plan.
