Tether: The impact of asset seizures on U.S. banking partners is limited
2026-09-25 22:37:01
CoinMeta data: Stablecoin issuer Tether stated that the assets held in its bank partner Eqibank, which was seized by U.S. authorities, account for less than 0.034% of its total assets. A spokesperson for Tether said that the company's holdings in Eqibank are limited, but no specific amount was disclosed. According to a report from Tether in June, the group's assets amounted to $187.75 billion; based on this, the risk exposure of Eqibank is approximately $64 million. Eqibank includes handling wire transfers related to the purchase and redemption of USDT. Although this incident highlights the counterparty risks for stablecoin issuers within the banking network, it does not pose a direct threat to USDT's reserves or its dollar peg.
