CoinMeta data: Joao Wedson indicates that there are a large number of old coins and potentially lost coins in Bitcoin. These coins include those associated with Satoshi Nakamoto, early miners, users who have lost access to their accounts, as well as coins that have not been touched for many years. Current data shows that the total supply of Bitcoin is 20.1 million BTC. Of this, the “profitable” supply is 14.8 million BTC, accounting for 73.6% of the total supply. The number of lost coins among these profitable coins is 5.5 million BTC, accounting for 27.4% of the total supply. After removing these lost coins, the profitable supply amounts to 9.35 million BTC, which represents 46.5% of the total supply. This means that approximately 37% of the Bitcoin currently considered profitable may actually come from lost or economically inactive coins. Once these coins are excluded, the situation regarding the profitable supply will change significantly. Traditional calculations of the profitable supply show that almost 74% of Bitcoin supply is considered profitable, but after removing the lost coins, only about 46.5% of the total supply represents economically active, profitable coins.
