Germany plans to invest 1.7 billion euros in upgrading its military communication encryption system

According to CoinMeta, Germany plans to purchase encryption technology worth up to 1.7 billion euros (about $1.9 billion) from the security company secunet for use in the data networks of its armed forces. A key committee of the German parliament is expected to approve the agreement with this company on Wednesday in order to modernize and upgrade the encryption systems of the German Federal Defense Forces' communication networks. The first order is worth just over 100 million euros and is expected to begin delivery next year. This framework agreement is based on Germany's existing agreements with secunet and has a duration of four years. secunet will build a "secure inter-network architecture" ( sina ). Influenced by this news, the stock price of secunet rose by 11% at one point during trading. The funds will be allocated through a "commitment authorization" process in the coming year. In addition, the German Ministry of Defense expects that the project will also generate additional costs of about 6 million euros by 2030.
