According to CoinMeta, the Solana core upgrade " alpenglow " has been deployed to the public test network. This upgrade aims to significantly reduce the final confirmation time of transactions ( finality ) from the current approximately 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds, enabling almost instant and irreversible settlement on exchanges, cross-chain bridging, and merchant settlements. Mechanistically, alpenglow replaces the existing towerbft consensus with a new peer-to-peer direct communication voting protocol called " votor ". Verification nodes determine blocks within 1 to 2 rounds by directly exchanging votes, eliminating the lengthy on-chain stacking process, without affecting upper-layer applications and ordinary user wallets. Nodes participating in this upgrade test need to run the agave 4.3 client maintained by the core development team anza. The independent clients firedancer and frankendancer under jump crypto do not currently support this test, which means that the first phase of testing is entirely carried out by agave.
