Miami, November 5 (Reuters) – Laureate Education, Inc. (Nasdaq ticker: LAUR) announced that on November 5, 2026, its subsidiary in Peru, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas ( UPC ), acquired the entire equity of the Peruvian higher education institution Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Am é rica Latina ( UCAL ), for a transaction price of approximately $35 million, which includes a campus property valued at about $25 million.
After the integration process is completed, UCAL will be merged into UPC.
This transaction will drive the expansion of UPC in the Lima metropolitan area. There is a strong demand for education in this region, but the existing campuses of UPC have limited room for expansion. The company stated that this move also advances the vision of UPC, which is to provide more young people with quality education and offer support at every stage of their educational journey.
This newly acquired campus currently serves nearly 2,500 students and can accommodate up to about 5,000 students.
