News from the IT community on November 5th: NVIDIA officially celebrated the 20th anniversary of the birth of the GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card today. They also launched a Steam demonstration game that took PC gamers back to 2006 to take a look at what this classic graphics card looked like back then.

According to IT, GeForce 8800 GTX was born on November 8, 2006. It is the first NVIDIA graphics card to support CUDA, laying the foundation for GPU computations other than graphic rendering and contributing to the development of accelerated computing platforms.

GeForce 8800 GTX is the flagship graphics card from 2006, with a recommended retail price of $599 (Note from IT's home: the current exchange rate is approximately 4,005 RMB). It uses the Tesla GPU architecture and is built on G80 chips, with a manufacturing process of 90nm and 128 cores. CUDA was initially introduced as a parallel computing platform and API, allowing GPU to go beyond just graphic rendering tasks. This framework has become an important foundation for the development of modern GPU architectures.

At the same time, the GeForce 8800 GTX has a operating frequency of 576MHz, is equipped with 768MB of GDDR3 video memory, a bit width of 384-, and a bandwidth of up to 86GB/s. It has a rated power consumption of 155W and requires 2 6- pin power supply interfaces, and uses the PCIe 1.0 x16 interface. This product was one of the few graphics cards at the time that could smoothly run games such as "Far Cry" and "BioShock." It supports DX10 and OpenGL 3.3 API.

In addition, the commemorative demo game launched by NVIDIA this time was created by Unreal Engine artist Dylan Browne. It takes players back to a gaming room from 2006. There, players can open the packaging of GeForce 8800 GTX and install it on their computers. This demo supports path tracing, DLSS 4.5 ray tracing, dynamic multi-frame generation, and RTX Mega Geometry.
