According to a report by Bloomberg on Wednesday, Apple is reducing the daily expenditure allowance for its engineering team that can be used for AI. This represents a significant change for a company that has been striving to integrate this technology into its engineering processes.
Reports indicate that in October, Apple reduced the daily AI expenditure limit for its engineering teams from $300 to $200. Further cuts are also in the works; people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that some of these limits could be lowered to $100 per day. Additionally, according to the reports, Apple is also considering setting a daily limit as low as $25 for areas outside of the engineering department.
TechCrunch has contacted Apple for a comment on this matter.
Earlier this year, a wave of " tokenmaxxing " swept through, with companies encouraging their employees to use AI as much as possible, on the grounds that it could bring about some vaguely defined improvements in efficiency. However, this enthusiasm did not last long, as the related token bills began to expire. Subsequently, companies realized that rationing the use of token might be a more financially rational approach.
There is still concern from the outside world that there seems to be a significant gap between the construction and operating costs of AI and the productivity improvements that this technology is supposed to bring, yet the latter are often not clear at all.
