Meta has acquired AI, a programming startup company known for allowing users to launch software projects by deploying multiple agents in parallel workspaces.
This news was initially reported by Axios, and Conductor also announced the acquisition on their own blog.
Conductor Founder and CEO Charlie Holtz wrote on Wednesday: "I have big news: Conductor will be joining Meta." He added that the company has "some very big, crazy plans" for the next generation of interfaces and hinted that there will be "new things" available for customers to use "by the beginning of next year."
Holtz also stated on X that he looks forward to working with Meta, the chief AI official, Alexandr Wang, as well as the Superintelligence Labs product leader Nat Friedman of the company. He wrote: 'They have always been very strong, and I am convinced that MSL has the highest talent density among all laboratories.'
Meta confirmed this acquisition to TechCrunch, but declined to comment further or provide any additional details about the transaction.
Conductor was established in 2024 and didn't launch its core product until last summer. The company's agent team can be deployed via the cloud, locally, or on users' mobile phones, with the aim of helping software engineers to collaborate on independent and separate parts of projects. The agents deployed on this platform are not developed in-house by the company but come from large laboratories such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
Holtz indicates that until the beginning of next year, the core functions of Conductor will continue to operate in the same manner as before. The only exception is the cloud service of Conductor, which will be shut down on November 20th, after which the company will begin to delete users' cloud data.
Meta was once lagging behind in terms of AI services, but has been making efforts to catch up in the past few months. In August, the company launched its own programming agent Muse Code. Meanwhile, the company's recently introduced Muse agent is seeing significant adoption, and the company recently disclosed that the number of users of this service has exceeded 10 million. Over the past year, Meta has also made several AI related acquisitions, including the previously notable proxy platform Moltbook.
